Alma
Alma from the Latin almus, alma: “that nourishes”, “that gives life”.
” We are what we eat.” Ludwig Feuerbach.
This famous statement by Feuerbach contains a fundamental truth: food is not only sustenance, but an essential component that defines what we are, both physically and spiritually.
What does it mean, then, to be what we eat?
Asking myself this fundamental question I developed the photographic series “Alma”. Through a lens that fuses the sacred and the natural, the photographs invite to reflect on the origin of nourishment as a creative and regenerative force.
Every gesture – holding, breaking, pouring – becomes a ceremony that calls for the conscious use of food as a vital sap.
The egg, fragile but essential, emerges as a primary metaphor of the cycle of life and nourishment: it represents the promise of creation and the delicacy of ecological balance.
The liquid elements that flow and transform evoke the eternal cyclicity of nature, underlining the need for a more respectful and sustainable approach to food resources.
The female body is finally represented as an archetype, a bridge between the sacred and the profane, matter and spirit. As the alma mater of life, it represents connection deep with food as a transforming element, celebrating the sacredness of nourishing as an act of love, care and revolution.
